Heimur
Furniture Studio by Nathan Lawrence
Wurundjeri Land — Coburg North, VIC

It started with a veggie crate.
The kind of wooden box used to transport fresh produce. Popular among DIY hobbyists, and Nathan's first foray into furniture making.

‘Having a workshop that I can just use for fun is fundamental to how I design.’
(Inside Out Magazine, 2020)

There's nothing rustic about Heimur.
Look no further than the sweeping curves and effortless joints, so deeply rooted in the collection. Hand-carved spindles are arranged uniformly across a bed head. Messmate timber bent around weaves of cane and cord.
From tables to chairs, beds and storage units, there’s a 70’s sensibility to Nathan’s work. A contemporary take on simpler times.

Throughout the workshop are vignettes of Nathan’s past.
A collection of hobbies, accumulating over time, informing the maker’s mark. Hung artworks from a prior framing business. A black and white image of Coburg Drive-In, captured during Nathan’s time as a photographer.
It’s a museum of ideas, built on years of trial and error.
